Engage Managers and Employees – Use Surveys!
Staying in touch with the employees of your organization is the best way to engage them. Engagement surveys are a great way to reach out to everyone at once, but you can easily use them to engage mid-level managers and hourly-paid employees.
Engagement surveys allow you to reach every corner of your organization in just a few simple steps. Whether you use it to engage employees ahead of their employee development interview, obtain information from a new employee, or send out an invitation for the upcoming company party.
HR-ON offers the survey tool Engagement Builder, an easy and intuitive tool that lets you build an engagement precisely the way you want. The tool is available in HR-ON Staff. No particular IT skills are required to manage the tool, and once you have a solid template, you can use it repeatedly.
An Engagement can consist of survey questions, information the employee can download, a short video, or other details for the employee to take notice of or engage with. The employee will receive a link they can access anytime through a smartphone, tablet, or computer.

Check In With Your Employee
The Engagement Builder is an excellent tool for asking specific questions to individual employees, mid-level managers, or hourly workers – in other words, employees you’re not necessarily engaged with daily. The Engagement Builder allows you to check in with the individual and ask questions relevant to their role.
Some situations may call for engagement surveys for an entire team or the organization. It could be in cases where you later would need to show that the whole team has been notified of important information, such as the GDPR do’s and don’ts.
You can even include questionnaires to ensure the employee is updated with the GDPR rules. Through their employee data card, you can access their responses, which means you have data proving that the employee has been adequately informed.
Tailor Your Questions for Each Individual Employee
Sometimes, asking an employee specific questions may be more relevant. An Engagement is a great way to reach out to check your managers’ job satisfaction, as this can have a decisive impact on the entire company.
For the manager or mid-level manager, you can ask questions like:
- Do you have enough time for your employees?
- How can you liberate (even more) time for your employees?
- How do you check in with your employees on a daily basis?
- How do you navigate the balance between your role as a manager and your daily tasks?

Anonymous vs. Visible Responses
Beyond creating and sending out surveys to the entire organization or specific employees, the Engagement Builder also allows you to send out an engagement for a smaller group of employees, like the hourly paid workers or the mid-level managers.
You have the option of making the responses anonymous. It means that no one can see the individual employee’s answers, but the survey’s total result is still accessible. On the other hand, you can set up the survey in a way that lets you see the exact response of the individual employee by clicking on the employee’s data card.
Creating as many predefined answer options for a question as needed is possible when creating an engagement. It’s also possible to create a text field, allowing employees to respond freely.
Don’t forget that you select who can access the responses. It all depends on the individual rights of each employee in HR-ON Staff. For example, allowing the nearest manager to access the employee’s responses can sometimes be relevant. In other cases, it may be sufficient only to grant HR access to the answers.
On top of this, you can add comments to the employee’s answers. The possibilities are endless, and if you are not already an HR-ON customer who uses HR-ON Staff as your HR platform, you can try out a free demo below:
