With a Good HR System, You’ll Never Forget a Step in an Onboarding Process

As an HR employee, a good onboarding process should be high on your priority list. Having a solid and well-planned process means when it’s time to welcome a new employee, every onboarding step is carried out perfectly. In such instances, having a sound HR system can be an excellent guide to remind you of all the steps in the process.

Did you know that a poorly planned onboarding process can result in a high employee turnover rate? But it doesn’t stop here: poor onboarding also affects your employees’ motivation and results. Therefore, take the time to plan the process.

Onboarding starts the second your new employee steps into the office for their first work day. From that moment, the process you have planned begins: the employee receives a warm welcome with flowers and a gift, and the process continues with a guided tour through the company, and coworkers have time to greet the new employee, and so on.

But who plans the onboarding process? Well, it depends on the company and how such tasks are delegated. Perhaps, the HR department is responsible for the onboarding process, or maybe it is a task for the new employee’s manager. No matter who the task falls on, having a good onboarding process increases the new employee’s chances of settling down successfully in the company.

Onboarding, Get on Board With It

It is essential that the new employee gets a solid, strong social bond in the company as it increases their work performance. Every employee’s well-being affects their happiness, motivation, and work results; therefore, having a workplace that prioritizes socialization and well-being and incorporates these in the onboarding process is already halfway up the onboarding ladder.

Onboarding also involves an employee check-up, which can be held a month after employment. A conversation is an excellent tool for checking up with the new employee. You have the opportunity to talk about the past month, what worked and didn’t, what about the employee’s well-being,  the new work tasks, and so on.

Unfortunately, this step is often overlooked and forgotten during the onboarding process, and we strongly encourage you to complete this step.

Use the Four C’s as a Rule of Thumb

As a rule of thumb for planning your onboarding process, try to include the four C’s: Compliance, Clarification, Culture, and Connection. As onboarding can take more than a couple of weeks or months, the four C’s can be incorporated into the different steps of the onboarding process.

Once the onboarding process is complete and the four C’s have been incorporated, the company and the new employee will need to work together going forward and together maintain the good work from the process.

The employee has learned about the basic rules and policies of the company, gained a clear understanding and training in their position, learned the company culture and the general layout of the company, and has established relationships with co-workers and managers. Of course, this is a time-consuming process that requires collaboration but take all the necessary time.
